Can I travel back by car?
Yes, if the patient is accompanied; driving is forbidden after surgery.
We recommend that the patient bring a large cushion to put under the
seat-belt during the journey.
Can I travel alone?
Yes, although it is not recommended.
Can I stay in a private room?
This is possible for an additional charge. The patient must also allow
an additional 4-6 weeks for the reservation if this is required. Most
rooms have 2-4 patients, and we try to keep EOC patients together.
What are my options if I need more information?
In addition to our website, patients can find more information and personalised
help by email, telephone and online chatrooms, which we host. Our first
priority is to put the patient in contact with a medically-trained professional,
who will discuss all the relevant medical information. The first step
for this is to fill out the application form.
Telephone consultations with Dr. Dillemans are also possible, and occasionally
these can even be arranged for evening hours. Personal consultations
before the surgery can be arranged in either Bruges or in the UK. All
of our staff have plenty of experience with the procedures in Bruges,
having personally observed Dr. Dillemans' methods, and they will be more
than happy to supply the prospective patient with all relevant information.
Can my partner and child stay in my hotel room?
The Acacia Hotel has family rooms for more than two persons, but the
Hotel Mirabel has only double rooms. Of course, the patient's family
is more than welcome to visit him or her in hospital, where there are
no restrictions on young children.
What are the charges of the
hotel?
If you travel alone the hotel will only charge you for the nights you
stay in the hotel.
What can I expect from the hospital?
Hospital Sint Jan is a general hospital; many pictures of the hospital
can be found on our website here. Although the
hospital provides many different kinds of surgery, it has a special nursing
division for bariatric patients, and these nurses all speak fluent English.
Can I stay at another hotel in Bruges?
For logistical reasons, our private nurse can only visit patients at
the two selected hotels; also, Marc Van de Ryse only offers his transport
services from these locations. For these reasons, patients are strongly
recommended to choose one of the two selected hotels.
